Curriculum Intent: Subjects
We aim to provide coherent curriculum documentation that:
- All stakeholders understand.
- Can be easily reviewed and updated so that it remains relevant and fit for purpose.
- Facilitates effective delivery.
To achieve this, each faculty details the following aspects of their curricula:
- Purpose of Study: why the subject is an essential ingredient of our curriculum.
- Aims: what pupils will know, and be able to do, as a result of studying the subject.
- Curriculum-at-a-glance: what pupils will learn during each half-term of study.
- Medium Term Plan: the Learning Journey, learning Challenge and Learning Consolidation for each unit.

Religious Studies at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5:
All pupils at key stage 4 are offered 70 hours of religious studies as part of the personal development curriculum based on the AQA GCSE religious studies short course. The curriculum is delivered during tutor time, assemblies and drop-down days over years 10 and 11.
Pupils at KS5 are offered elements of the AQA GCSE religious studies short course which will enhance the course delivered at key stage 4, this is also delivered during tutor time, assemblies and drop-down days.
Parental Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)
We respect the rights of parents and carers regarding their child’s education. Under current legislation, parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE) lessons. This includes activities related to Religious Education that do not form part of the statutory National Curriculum.
If you wish to exercise this right, we ask that you inform the school in writing, detailing whether you are withdrawing your child from all or specific parts of the RE curriculum. We are happy to discuss any concerns you may have and provide further information to help you make an informed decision.
