07/11/2017; Nottingham, UK: Teachers and students at the Nottingham Girls’ Academy have been celebrating after being awarded the highly regarded eTwinning National Quality Label and European Quality Label.

To secure the Quality Labels, the local school worked in partnership with IESO Sierra la Mesta, Santa Amalia in Spain to create an outstanding project using digital collaborative tools. The project entailed the development of students’ Spanish skills by working collaboratively on issues that affect our society nowadays such as forced migration and refugees.

eTwinning, the digital community for schools over 300,000 teachers in 43 countries across Europe and beyond, is funded by the European Commission as part of the Erasmus+ programme and managed in the UK by the British Council. The National Quality Label is issued to schools that produce outstanding work as part of their eTwinning partnership.

Nazareth Mansilla, Spanish teacher at the Nottingham Girls’ Academy said: “We are delighted to have been the awarded the eTwinning National Quality Label and European Quality Label. Everyone at the Nottingham Girls’ Academy has enjoyed working with IESO Sierra la Mesta on Global Smiles. To secure the National Quality Label is a real honour for the students and teachers who participated in the project. The eTwinning project has brought motivation and new perspectives to the students and it even had an impact on the local community as students raised money for the Nottingham Refugee Forum as part of it.
